HotD is sponsoring a new Vampyric Guild featuring real time chats on MSN and private study groups for Portuguese speakers who are interested in exploring Vampirism and the Vampyric Journey. Of Goals and Milestones
On Dealing with the Media by Khan
If there are going to be folks that speak to the media, they absolutely need to be credible and distinguished as viable experts. The problem is that some folks forget that WE have the information the media wants, and too many folks are rushing to be seen as those experts before properly assessing the situation.
The way to get an expert that is taken seriously requires someone who consistently has viable outlets conveying the same tone. That gives the personality enough clout to pick and choose where their message is heard, and how it's heard. Viable politicians don't speak at Neo-Nazi rallies. Human rights groups don't speak to underground militias. Professors don't hold seminars at a drug rehab facility. That's because is it not their target audience, but anyone with half a brain knows they won't be portrayed they way they want to be, and the message gets polluted.
So, if you have issues with who is doing the piece, or you have questions about how they intend on portraying you and your message, then common sense says to save it for someone you have no concerns over and is wanting to reach the same result as you are. And that kind of information needs to be passed around so we have better results with what gets put out to the public, and the "freak of the week" interviews are given less credence. That's what gives us our viable experts, and that's how we end this cycle of collectively slamming our heads on our desks.
